Privacy policy
- Dark Notes Lyte has no servers and no accounts. We never receive your notes.
- Your notes are stored in your own browser on your own device.
- If you turn on Google Drive sync, your notes go to a folder in your own Google Drive, directly from your browser.
- No ads, no analytics, no tracking, no cookies from us.
What Dark Notes Lyte is
Dark Notes Lyte is a notes app that runs entirely in your web browser, either from darknoteslyte.com or as a single downloaded HTML file. All the app's code runs on your device.
Where your notes are stored
- In your browser. Notes, images and settings are saved in your browser's local storage (IndexedDB and localStorage) on your device. They are not sent to us.
- In a backup folder you choose (optional). In Chrome and Edge you can pick a folder on your computer and the app writes backup files there. Exports and backup downloads are saved to your device.
- In your Google Drive (optional). See below.
Google Drive sync (optional)
If you click Sign in with Google, Google asks you to allow Dark Notes Lyte to use the drive.file permission. With this permission the app can only see and change files that it created itself. It cannot see any other files in your Drive.
- The app creates one folder in your Drive called Dark Notes Lyte Sync, with a file
dnl-sync.json(your notebooks, sections, pages, text windows and settings) and one file per image you added to your notes. - Your browser talks to Google Drive directly. Nothing passes through a Dark Notes Lyte server; there is none.
- The sign-in token is kept only in your browser's memory for the session and is not saved. The app remembers in your browser that you turned sync on and which account email you used, so it can reconnect next time.
- The app reads your account email address from Google only to show you which account you are syncing with.
- Sign out revokes the app's access token. You can also remove access at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions, and delete the Dark Notes Lyte Sync folder from your Drive whenever you like.
- Use of information received from Google APIs follows the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. Your Google data is used only to sync your own notes, is never sold, shared, or used for ads, and is never read by people.
What we collect
Nothing. Dark Notes Lyte has no analytics, no tracking pixels, no advertising and no account system. We do not use cookies.
Network requests the app makes
- Update check: when online, the app may fetch a small public file (
darknoteslyte.com/version.json) to tell you about new versions. This request carries no personal data or notes. - Google sign-in and Drive: only if you turn on sync, to Google's servers (accounts.google.com and googleapis.com) under Google's own privacy policy.
- Hosting: the website is served by Cloudflare Pages. Like any web host, Cloudflare may process basic technical data (such as IP addresses) to deliver and protect the site. We do not add tracking to it.
Children
Dark Notes Lyte does not collect personal information from anyone, including children.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be posted on this page with a new date.
